October is the month for breast cancer awareness but I support the cause all day every day working as a Customer Sales Leadership Member at Victoria's Secret. I remember the day I committed myself, It was fall 06, I was unaware at the time of what I was getting myself into. I was a college student in need of a part time job to help pay for commuter and miscellaneous fees. On my way job searching I pass a Victoria's Secret in midtown on the west side of the city. I say to myself, "Well it's a glamorous store, how hard can it be to stay glamorous?". The manager tells me they're looking for seasonal help and then she schedules me to for a group interview. The interviewing goes well and they offer me the position as a seasonal sales associate.
The training is intense, I couldn't believe how much we have to learn about measuring and finding the perfect bra for women. Learning sizes of bras, styles and the features and benefits of each is amazing. "Do young girls and women really have issues finding their bras?", I say to myself. I really was in disbelief but then I thought about how many times I bought bras and they were too small or too big and did nothing for me. I never thought of asking anyone because I though It's was just my personal matter but then I thought of the many young ladies or women who feels the same.
Connecting with the customer is everything, without a connection she would not trust you with her bra experience. The first time I measured a women and introduce her to our Bra Wardrobe Center, it changed my life and hers. This customer has never been measured before and had a lot of problems finding bras that are supportive and comfortable. I say with an open mind, "No worries, we will find you bras that will give you what you need". I introduce the client to our Body By Victoria collection, she is doubtful but willing to give it a try.
Five bras and a few moments later, we find her the perfect bra. With excitement and relief she jumps up and hug me. "This is what it is all about", I said to myself. From that moment on, I vowed to always make sure when the clients walk into the fitting room they'll have an phenomenal experience. It's more then selling bras, it's creating a sisterhood!
p.s. Your breast are close to your hear, make sure you take care of them!
