A New Relationship
Moving has taken so much of me that I literally enjoy every moment I break away from it. Crazy right? Shouldn't it be the other away around? There's just too many decisions to make, from color stories, creating space, buying the right furniture and decor and not to mention unpacking. Somebody pray for me, seriously, but don't get it twisted I'm super excited I have my own place but the next time I'm hiring an assistant. If styling my rooms were as simple as creating an outfit, I'll be on top of the moon. There are plenty of things that I've bought and now hate and stuff I couldn't imagine buying before, that I'm so in love with. I guess that's how it goes, right?
Funny, my place feels like a new relationship or better yet an old or current. You can't run away from them, doesn't matter if they're intimate, related, professional or fun, all of them have their ups and downs. Just like my apartment and many of my other relationships my soul has to connect before thinking about it's flaws or beauty. I'll make a decision to go forward or not because I realized nothing in life is permanent, things are always changing and we can only control what we do on our behalf and take from the relationship exactly what it is. I didn't always think of it this way, I thought what you put in something, you'll get back the same but the more we experience, then well find out, that is not always the case. So I've learned to either accept things for how they are or move on from them.
There are a few things I don't like about my place but many things that I love and can't wait to experience. In life I deal with things as follows: If the beauty out weighs the flaws I can live with it which allows me to be more free and creative in the process. Whenever I'm not able to be myself and have to explain every little flaw that I have, I feel restricted and captivated. Thats when I know its time to move on and learn from it all.
p.s. I just remembered I need to change my address!

M.I.A Report
Hey everyone!
I know I've been missing in action but no worries I'm back! There is so much going on in my life right now and Thank GOD it is all for the best! I recently got promoted to another role at work so I'm back in the heart of the city... midtown glamour. I'm Loving my new role and the direction I'm going with it, lets see where it takes me. I also moved from the North Bronx to Queens, I know... I can't believe it either. Me... Q, in Queens? I always thought Queens was in a world of it's own and didn't plan on questing it but you know how life works.
My mom is excited for me and always knew I would live somewhere like Queens or Long Island because growing up in Albany, NY, life is quite similar just without the trains. If you live in the suburbs or small towns then you know exactly what I mean. I knew after high school or college I'd run far away from that lifestyle and move back to Manhattan where I was born and partially raised. After I graduated from college I stayed with my grandmother for a little while and then decided to move out on my own.
Searching for apartments is five times worst then applying to colleges. Little did I know, rent in NYC, especially manhattan, cost more than most mortgages people pay upstate. I just can't get with paying $1800 for a studio apartment so thats how I got to the North Bronx. I was peacefully there for two years until one night in this past July I was mugged in my neighborhood for my damn IPhone. Not to mention the boy lives not too far from where I lived. WTF?
I learned a lot living in the Bronx, For starters never walk home late at night by yourself or at all. Catch a damn cab! Always know what's in your surroundings and the name of your side streets. Can you believe I never knew the name of the side streets in my neighborhood? If something were to happen, I couldn't tell the operator where the hell I was! Never underestimate or put anything pass anyone, I don't care if they're young, old, crippled or blind people are dangerous. Always call someone before you get on the train, cab or bus especially if you're going home alone or living alone. Most of all make friends with a least one of your neighbors so someone can look after you. These are things you think people know but let me tell you I was one who didn't so imagine how many others don't.
How I got to Queens...
Queens wasn't on the radar until my friend mom told me about an apartment next door to them so I checked it out, gave it some thought and moved in two months later. One of the greatest things about Queens is that my God son and bestie is 15 minutes away. There is no way I'm getting away from babysitting! It's all good because I was starting to feel like a dead beat God mother.
P.s.
I'm sure missing the hardwood floors in my last apartment and my roommate who was the best anyone could ask for but there is nothing like having a place of your own.

We Don't Have To Say Goodbye
I love white pieces and as of last year I begin to adore white shoes. All spring and summer long I rocked it like it was going out of style and for some, it just might be. Who cares for rules? Labor Day has past but does not mean we have to give the color up and in fact I'm already scoping out some winter white pieces.

Intimate Warriors

The days of steamy weather is at it's end and the return of Autumn as we know is coming in stronger than ever. Does this mean we forget all the style secrets from the summer? If we want to survive the season of multitasking, then we know the answer. Layering fab garments doesn't give us the right to be lazy with our undergarments so keep in mind the wonders of our intimates. With the passing of summer, we could have gain or loss weight in all the right places so getting a measurement is crucial.
Go into a Victoria's Secret store near you for a complementary bra fitting and a intimate wardrobe consultation.

September= Power Month

September starts a new season of powerful beginnings in everything around us. With the return to school or new projects at work, keeping your family and friends on their toes and making space for social events can challenge you. What's the armor? A confident wardrobe! It will get you through anything or least lift your spirits.
The must have list:
Bold patterns, structured pieces, statement jewelry and killer pumps in warm colors are needed. Just because summer is over doesn't give you the right to look gloomy. Classic black is a definite but of course done sexy with major sophistication. Planning is crucial during this time of year so that calls for having the right gadgets and supplies.

Fall 2010: Leather&Pleather

Leather never goes out of style unless you're wearing it from head to toe. Don't get me wrong there are a few who can pull the look off but I think it's done right when you mix it with other materials. Not only is leather here to stay for the fall season but faux leather will share the spotlight and were not just talking in jackets.

To Bitch Or Not?
Bitch Is the New Black by Helena Andrews is a funny and heartfelt memoir about an African American young lady striving for success while trying to date and keep close with family and friends. Ms. Andrews says what many of us would be afraid to or what many of us do and when some may give looks for saying things on your mind, just know you're not alone. Ms. Andrews and I have your back! Go and grab your copy and share it with your bffs over dinner.

Summer Fun: Museums
Museums are a must see this summer, they keep you cool from all of the outside heat and most of all you learn so much from all of the exhibits.
My favorites thus far:
The Bronx Museum: Road to Freedom and After 1968 ( great photo exhibit and I'm going to see it again with friends!)
Miami: Bass Museum of Art
Brooklyn Museum of Art: From the Village to Vogue, Andy Warhol: the Last Decade, The Mummy Chamber and so much more
Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET): American Woman, Picasso, Doug + Mike Starn on the Roof: Big Bambu, Epic India: scenes from the Ramayana and so much more to see (It will probably take a full week to see everything).
Museum of Art and Design: Portable Treasuries and Dead or Alive: Nature Becomes Art
Now go and visit to see what exhibits are your favorites. Share the love!

Miami Heat
The four days I spent in Miami were fabulous and my oh my the drinks were great for the heat. I loved being away at the beach, having cocktails on the rooftops and dining in the middle of the market way. Now I know I can do all of those things + more here in NYC but it's a whole different experience when you don't have to listen to loud vehicles in the mix. Oh Miami you will truly be missed!

Madame's Look Book: Park in California Vintage
A couple of weeks ago while waiting for my friends in downtown Brooklyn, I spot a girl hauling a cab. She seemed pretty frustrated not being able to get one right away and it's hard to believe one would miss her. She has on the only jacket, a colorful oversized delight paired with blue jean shorts, socks and shoes. Her look is amazing and I couldn't help but to go and chat with her to find out who she is. Her name is Park from LA, a student studying Spanish and dance and she is visiting a friend for the summer here in NYC.
My Favorite Piece: her vintage jacket

The Month of the Crab (June 21- July 22)
We're 10 days into July and only 10 days away from my birthday. Yes I'm a Cancer! Turning 26 creeps me out big time because Its usually the age when people measure their accomplishments. There is a lot more I have to do and with God's Blessings I'm sure 'll keep making things happen. For the past two years I've grown a lot and I'm constantly challenging myself to become a better me. Trust me there is lots of bumpy roads but I keep pushing knowing there would be a great outcome. Before I get back into the groove of things I'm taking a 10 day vacation spending some of it with the boyfriend in Miami, going wild with the girlies around town (not snoop dogg wild) and jazzing it up with family events.
I read a lot about my zodiac sign and I was pretty impressed about what I discovered. Everything just makes perfect sense of why I do the things I do. Go out and get Astrology Gems by Monte Farber and Amy Zerner, their work is amazing!
The Cancer
savvy
warm
compassionate
nurturing
intuitive
possesses a shrewd business sense
enjoys good food and wine
protective of friends and family
easily gets her feelings hurt
don't like to throw things away
overpowering
defensive
crabby
"Cancerians are legendary for their ability to nurture people and projects, for they sense the needs of others on an emotional level", Farber and Zerner.
