Style Junkies: Day out in Brooklyn

Feeling lucky this past Monday, Julissa and I head to Salvation Army to hunt from some great treasures and of course we find plenty.

Style Junkies: Day out in Brooklyn

Julissa and I always have a blast during our weekly meetings. It doesn't matter the deal, shopping, dining, partying or just talking over a snack; the level of excitement is always the same. This past Monday we decide to walk downtown Brooklyn to visit a friend's boutique (Paper Doll), on the way there we are stopped by a lovely lady. I don't know if it was Juilissa's green booties or my red plaid pencil skirt, she must have known we are vintage lovers. She tells us she just finish having a stoop sale and the remaining of the items left are free. What? Free? Being the fashion junkies we are, we thank the lady and gladly walk across the street to the brownstone hoping to find some goodies. Of course we do!

The Dollar Man

34th Herald Square is always loaded with people, there is usually never slow moments but some how I find one. As I'm hurrying pass to get to the # 2 train station, I see a sign that says all jewelry $1, I say to myself, hmm... why not? As I fiddle through bright color earrings and bracelets, I come across two beautiful shell like necklaces. One is black with hints of grey, purple and green and the other purple with a hint of pink and brown. Both only $1 and perfect to match with a basic top and cardigan. Lucky me!

Essence Magazine

I love to write about fashion and life style and reading it through someone else eyes is also important. Reading several magazines keeps me up to speed, spunky and innovative. Essence particularly delivers hot issues non stop. Not only do I get to review hot new pieces for fall, updates about artist and designers, I also get great advice from Angela (Editor in Chief). She saves my days plenty of times and I look forward to her letters each month. I literally run to the magazine stands just to read what she has to say and see who's gracing the cover! Subscribing may seem easier but I get a kick out of running, not to mention It's great exercise.

Essence September and October Highlights

Gabrielle Union for September is great and satisfying, I'm glad to get the updates on her career, I thought she strayed away. Phylicia Reshad looks amazing, I guess that's what loving yourself is all about! Mary J for October is a knock out, I'm glad to see her staying strong! The pop culture style insider with Estelle, one word: FIERCE!

Beautiful St. Lucia

The ship docks in St. Lucia at 8 am and the sun is shining bright into our room. I run to the balcony and right before me, a beautiful island stares me in the face. I awake my boyfriend and we hurry to get dress because we can't wait to see what the island has to offer.

While touring Castries, the capital city of St. Lucia, we visit an art studio, historic landmarks, shops and get to stop and talk with some natives.

Island Highlights and Facts:

Influenced by French, English and African culture

Secondary Language: Creole

Popular Dance: Quadrille, a dance performed by couples, similar to square dancing

Popular Music Genres : soca, zouk and reggae

Popular Drink: Piton, named after two historic mountains (Pitons)

My Best Moment:

Drinking a cola while the rain falls lightly on my face . It showers for only 2 minutes and the sun comes back out.

My Fashionista Moment: purchasing pink shell and pearl bracelet
