Ladies Night Out: Dinner and a Movie

This Thursday May 27, the most highly anticipated chick flick is coming to theaters. Of course I'm talking about the Sex and the City sequel ! I love the story lines but go crazy over the shoes and wardrobe of the lovely fashionistas. Their sisterhood is inspiring and I can't wait to grab my bffs and run in our fiercest pumps to watch Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Samantha on the big screen.

Ladies Night Out!

I'm heading out to meet up with my sister and grandma than later on linking up with the girls to enjoy this fabulous weather. By the way if you and friends are in the meatpacking district swing by 675. This bar/lounge has private rooms with different entertainment in each so you can have a blast with your crew. We played Jinga, watch Terminator, chat with strangers and of course ordered drinks and appetizers. The place is pretty damn cool...

Madame Notes: Spring/Summer Hair

Okay so I've been wearing my hair short for the past 7 years and for the last 3 years during the winter I always grow it out and add extensions. I love that I have the option of doing whatever I want! Now it's back short and well I don't know if I'm loving the fact that everyone has their hair short and hair stylist are calling it a "Rihanna Do". I love the girl but she didn't invent that look and neither did I but damn I don't feel so exclusive anymore. Who am I kidding? a million women can have their hair short but their is only one Madame Q. Selfish right? I know but sometimes you just have to be that way.

Madame's Playlist: La Roux- Bullet proof

My Theme song: Bulletproof is the jam... Sometimes I feel like with all i go through and how it gets me down sometimes but you know what I AM STRONG and the higher power only makes ME STRONGER and it feels like bulletproof.

This song is like an old 80's/new school punk... Love the song and her hair! This time baby, I'll be... Bulletproof! I hope this kicks off your day.

Madame Notes: Familiar Places

Last week during my "Me Time" I went back into my old neighborhood, Lincoln Center. I remember the early afternoons chilling on the steps of glamorous monuments and taking long walks in Central Park. At night I would go to Francisco's Pizzeria and grab a slice with garlic nots and a orange Fanta. All of these exercises were simple yet fabulous for me. Not to mention this area has everything you need, lots of shopping and entertainment for sure. Luckily my Grandma still lives in the area so I don't get home sick too often but I sure miss it from time to time.

Brooklyn Vybez: Brooklyn Museum's First Saturdays

Growing up, museums and galleries were apart of my life style. My grandmother would take my siblings, cousins and I to a different event at one almost every weekend during the summer. I guess it's no mystery why I love history and the arts so much. Anyway, I've heard about some events at the Brooklyn Museum that takes place the first saturday of every month. Target sponsors the event and there's free lectures about current exhibits, activities, food, drinks and performances. A year has gone by and I still never checked it out until last week saturday. The place was packed and full of life, people socialize and have a ball dancing and enjoying the music. The sad part is I got there 45 minutes before it ends but don't worry I'll be much earlier next time. In God's speed.

P.S
The Bronx Museum, Lincoln Center and MOMA have Target free events so be sure to check it out!

Culture & Arts: FIT Museum

Tuesday I went to the FIT Museum to see the Night and Day and American Beauty exhibits and they are pretty good.

Before I entered the museum I came across a pretty good presentation in the lobby.

Night and Day makes you realize how important appearance and presentation is for women. Just think about the rules many women had to follow for decades and the rules many of us are breaking today. I remember my grandmother never wanting to wear shorts or a bikini, she would say, "It's not the Christian thing to do", now I have to hide her two piece and fitted dresses.

The American Beauty exhibit is about modern innovations and top designers in the United States. Although there are plenty of great inspiring styles, I feel a slight disconnect. I can not afford many designers like Channel, Dior, Louis V and many others. Many people I know can't afford their clothing so what do we do? We shop in stores like H&M, Zara, Forever 21, Marshalls, Loweman's and etc. Now their shoes are more affordable for me so that's the only connection I'll have with them for now unless I come across a Dior jacket in a thrift shop which sometimes I do. I think you get the point so as for me, American Beauty has nothing to do who's name is on your suit but how you make the suit work for you.

P.S true American Beauty is the fusion of culture & style that connects us all from hip-hop to Harajuku
